Gino and Barnabi descended into the smokestack. Barnabi had difficulty breathing with all the smoke, but Gino, determined to save his sister, hadn’t noticed.

After breathless moments of descent, the pair finally escaped the stack and found themselves in the bell gallery. The countless brass cages began to ring in pleas of help and salvation. The unending clatter shook Gino to his core. “How are we going to find Beani?”

“GINO!” said Beani.

Gino heard the cry, but found it difficult to find its source. “Beani? Beani, where are you?”

“Over here!” said Beani.

Barnabi’s finely tuned brushbaby senses pinpointed her exact location. “Over their, Gino. Fifth row from the bottom.”

Gino flew fiercely. With his sister now in sight, nothing could stop him from his goal. “Beani! Are you alright?”

“I’m really tired. I want to go home,” said Beani.

“We’ll get you home,” said Barnabi, “don’t worry about that.”

Barnabi grasped the bars of Beani’s cage and relieved himself from Gino’s arms. Then, his nimble brushbaby fingers picked open the lock that kept the cage closed. The brass bar door swung open.

“Barnabi, I don’t think I can carry two people out of here.” said Gino.

“You won’t be carrying anybody out of here,” hissed a low, ominous voice.

From the ground rose a dark black mist. The clatter of the ringing pleas ended.

“Leave Gino,” said Beani, “Leave before he gets you too.”
