A single barrel was lit and launched from the wagon. It arched through the air. The only noise it made was the quiet hiss of a burning fuse. Upon landing on the tower’s guard wall, many rapid explosions broke the still of the Nightlands. The cacophony of the bursting barrel was matched by the resplendence of a chromatic cloud of smoke and sparks.

“NOW!” said Lotor.

The three Mookta warriors sprinted out from the treeline and down the hillside. The smoke from the barrel masked their presence once they reached the guard wall. Lotor, Rinus, and Viver had successfully breached the doom spire.

“What should we do?” said Barnabi.

“We came here to save my sister,” said Gino, “so we should do that.”

Barnabi pulled Gino back before he could leave the wagon. “Gino, look!”

A massive throng of Badgi, all of differing shapes and sizes, poured from the wound in the guard wall. Piling one on top of the other, the Badgi quickly filled the gap in the guard wall, effectively scabbing over the entry point made by Lotor.

“How are we going to get in now?” asked Barnabi.

Gino pointed towards the sky. “Through there.”

Weaving itself up amongst the writhing, upturned roots of the doom spire, was a single, serpentine billow of smoke, climbing ever higher, until it dissipated into the vast, Nightland sky.

“Where there’s smoke,” said Gino, “there’s a chiminy!”

Baranabi frowned. “There’s also fire!”

Before Barnabi could protest much more, Gino had grabbed him and flew toward the smoke.
