From the Rando Book of Fairy Tales and Legends.
Long ago, after quelling a siege perpetrated by the evil denizens of the Nightlands, Rando found himself traveling along a forest path as dusk painted the sky its nightly colors. Though happy to protect his world and people whenever he would need to, Rando wished for someone with whom he could share his life during times of peace.
Suddenly, a tiny King Wisher came scrambling out of a bush near him, flying high into the treetops upon escaping the thick underbrush. Rando knew that it must be one from his collection that was once kept in his menagerie yet after the damage done by the Nightlands attack; it was now bereft of all aviary species.
As he thoughtfully watched the bird disappear into the horizon, another sound was heard from the same bush the Wisher came from, only this sound was far more human. Upon stepping through the brushwood he came to a small clearing where the newly rising moon cast a single beam of light upon the most beautiful women Rando had ever seen. She sat crying on a tree stump and became startled when first seeing she was not alone however, eased as Rando assured her he was not of any harm.
Her family home was destroyed by the recent invading forces and both parents died in the attack. She had been following a single little blue bird with a curious marking on its head to safety, hoping it was a sign of some sort. Rando realized that the bird she spoke of was the very Wisher he saw only moments before and thought perhaps, maybe it was a sign. Rando knew he couldn’t leave the poor woman out in the wild without a home to return to so he offered up his own as a place for her to stay. At this, the sobbing of the beauty finally subsided as she graciously accepted Rando offer.
“May I ask your name, my dear?” inquired Rando as they stepped out of the brushes once again, making way to his residence.
The woman smile for the first time, “Of course, it’s Liliana and thank you for your kindness, after so much war, all I want is this world is a moment’s peace.”
At this Rando smiled and looked skyward to the path the King Wisher took not long ago. Yes, he thought, that would be quite nice.
